These clients reached out to us in 2021, looking to create an outdoor retreat at their new build home. Their wish list included a pool, an outdoor dining and lounge area, a shed, outdoor kitchen, fireplace, driveway, and a front porch.

To ensure privacy in the backyard, we incorporated slatted hardwood screens into the fencing.

Since the property backs onto the Niagara Escarpment, we had to strategically use the limited backyard space. There was an existing limestone boulder retaining wall that we refurbished.

In this compact space, we successfully overcame two challenges: Firstly, we designed a large pool while still leaving areas for dining, lounging, a fireplace, an outdoor kitchen, and a custom-built pool shed on one side. Secondly, we addressed the drainage issue by installing a 6” strip of pebble adjacent to the house, and a weeping tile system that efficiently directs water to the front of the property.

We installed a covered fireplace beneath the overhang at the back of the house and built the outdoor kitchen off the deck for easy access from the house.

In the front yard, we installed a porch using helical piers and a floating roof deck, enabling the creation of a suspended concrete slab for the porch. We added railings that complemented the other landscape elements and ensured that the driveway flowed nicely to the front porch and sidewalk.

This project was exciting to undertake. In the slider below, you can see a mix of design shots and finished project photos.
