We are artists.
We are craftsmen.

We believe in properties that get better with age.

Where it all began

Committed to integrity, we build with passion.

It was over ten years ago that Richard and Christine Wynia founded LandArt. What started as a small contracting business has since grown into a multiple-award-winning enterprise, servicing the Niagara, Greater Hamilton and Burlington areas.

Our team is composed of craftsmen — artists — who are all passionate about the quality of their craft and dedicated to work with you to build your own beautiful custom landscape. Biblical principles such as honesty and integrity challenge us to display these virtues in all our business practices.

Striving for excellence

Meet Richard and Christine Wynia.

As Richard himself would say, Christine is the financial brains of the operation. Having grown up on a farm, she always felt drawn to the challenge of running a business. With a passion for numbers and analytics, she went to school to study business accounting and then went on to receive her CPA, CMA designation.

Richard, on the other hand, is the dreamer in the relationship. He began working in the industry during high school where he quickly developed an affinity for landscaping. Over the years, Richard’s passion for the craft continued to evolve; now, one of the things he enjoys most is working with you to see your ideas transform into a beautiful custom landscape that you’ll use for years.

Our Team

Theresa Wynia

Project Facilitator

Theresa is Richard’s sister and has worked in almost every area of our business. She brings that wealth of experience as a project facilitator, overseeing production with the site foreman. Theresa is your main point of contact through construction and will communicate updates that need to be addressed along the way.

Debi McKellar

Landscape Designer

With a diploma in Landscape Design from Humber College, Debi brings a background that ranges from architectural model creation to floral arrangements. She’s responsible for creating the design for your project. This involves measuring the site, concept planning, creating plant and material lists, as well as corresponding with municipalities and government agencies to manage the permitting process on your behalf. Debi is about to complete her CLD (Certified Landscape Designer) certification through Landscape Ontario.

Nick te Bokkel, RSE

Masonry Foreman

Nick is married to Christine’s sister and is our longest standing employee. Beginning as a labourer, he worked up to become a lead hand, and then a foreman. He completed his apprenticeship with LandArt and received his Red Seal in masonry. He now manages our Masonry Division. With an extreme attention to detail, Nick is a masonry artist, capable of matching existing features or of creating his own masterpiece.

Ian Dokter

Landscape Foreman

With a degree in Judicial Studies from the University of Guelph, Ian married Richard’s sister and decided to join us as a foreman. Along with everything involved in managing the site, he is responsible for making sure that quality and aesthetics are met on each project that he leads. Ian cares about efficiency and accuracy; he is an expert tactician and ensures that the design is reflected on the ground.

Matthew Crossman

Landscape Foreman

With prior experience in the industry, specifically in maintenance, Matthew began with LandArt as a lead hand and now manages one of our landscape construction crews. He is dedicated to ensuring your customer experience is excellent throughout construction.

David Baartman

Carpentry Foreman

Early in his career, Dave worked in maintenance for landscape companies. He transitioned to commercial construction and eventually ran a renovation business specializing in cabinetry for 10 years. Dave joined LandArt in 2017 to start and lead our Carpentry Division. Passionate about quality craftsmanship, he’s a world of knowledge when it comes to building techniques and is currently working on completing his BCIN certification
