The Spruce project was a beautiful and innovative undertaking, earning a Landscape Ontario Award of Excellence. Completed in 2023, this project challenged us to create a unique design while preserving an existing oak tree in the backyard. We designed and built a deck around the tree, along with an outdoor kitchen, seating area, fire pit, and a screened-in porch—perfect for outdoor dinners with the whole family.
The clients wanted to seamlessly integrate an outdoor living space with the natural beauty of their backyard. Rather than extending the house outward, their goal was to bring the property's natural feel up to the back of the house. They envisioned three deck spaces: a kitchen, a dining area, and a firepit with seating. Opting for glass railings, they maintained an unobstructed view of the backyard.
Below, a composite deck with a wrap-around staircase was built to accommodate the existing oak tree seen in the photos.
The addition of landscape lighting highlights project features, adds ambiance, and increases safety at night.
Finally, this outdoor living structure with automatic screens extends the client's living space and creates the perfect protected backyard hangout space.
